As part of the transformation of the Hoboken waterfront, which was formerly used for factory and manufacturing purposes, Maxwell Place Park was conceptualized as part of a plan to turn the area into an open and green space that allows for true public access to the river.

The park is one of many open spaces that complete the connection of waterfront walkways and parks along the Hudson River.  This pier park connects to the land pier immediately to the south which Let it Grow constructed in 2007.

Let It Grow’s expertise in building parks and open spaces, awarded us the contract to build the Maxwell Place Peninsula Park. Our full scope of work included excavation, earthwork and storm drainage. A challenging phase of the job was building a temporary cofferdam in the Hudson River to hold back the river so that we could install a boat landing. The river water was pumped out of the work area, and a large crane was brought in to hoist and set in place precast panels to create the boat landing at the end of the pier.

Let It Grow asphalted designated areas and we used a special concrete to build various pathways and walkways throughout the park. We formed, poured, and built concrete pads for foundations for bench pads, the boathouse, flagpole bases, etc., and put in ornamental and safety fencing.

We installed state of the art children’s playground equipment as well as beautifully designed site furnishings; including World’s Fair benches, picnic tables, Flag poles, trash receptacles and water fountains. We performed all the electrical work for the site including attractive lighting bollards. Dog Run amenities were added, including water fountains for dogs.

An expansive irrigation system was built and installed, including water lines for the water fountains. In addition, we did subgrade, topsoil, seeded lawn areas, installed sod, and put in a variety of plant material throughout the park and in all planters. Improvements were made to the landscaping at the Guardhouse to complete the project.

Because of our commitment to this project, we were awarded additional project work for the new pier that was completed in 2009. An existing concrete pier on the Hudson River was revitalized adjacent to the new Maxwell Place Pier, and a new pier was constructed to the north of the existing one.  Our scope of work included building the concrete planter walls, concrete sidewalks, and installing new concrete pavers and Belgium block. In addition, we installed sod, trees, landscaping & plantings, as well as the irrigation system.
