NJ Transit Ramsey Park-n-Ride
Ramsey, NJ
A new era in commuting convenience began when NJ Transit won approval to build the new Ramsey, NJ, Regional Park-N-Ride Commuter Train Station, located just off of Rt. 17 at Island Road in Ramsey.
Along with the new station, a 5-floor parking deck with over 1,200 new spaces was created.
Let It Grow, Inc. was hired by NJ Transit and the Borough of Ramsey as the general contractor for all the landscape and site construction work for this project.
Addressing concerns from the local neighborhood residents regarding safety, noise and traffic, the borough of Ramsey, NJ Transit, local neighborhood groups, and the contractors and engineers worked closely together to create a safe work site for workers and pedestrians.
The result was an appealing, well-designed transit station, with beautifully landscaped grounds, modern site amenities and fixtures, and attractive new paths, walkways and plaza areas.
Let It Grow, Inc. was brought in as the contractor for the landscape and site construction work on the project. The scope of work included stabilizing the laying sod down in some lawn and grass areas and fine grade and seeding in other areas. Screened topsoil and cedar mulch was installed and a full array of trees, evergreens, shrubs, bushes, plants, groundcover and grasses were planted by our landscape team. To support the extensive installation, a complete irrigation system with sleeving was designed and put in by our irrigation division.
Another major component of the project was our concrete, stone and paver work. Let It Grow asphalted driveway areas, aprons, and walkways. We did subgrade and base and top stone work and poured concrete sidewalks. Attractive looking pavers were installed throughout the site in curving patterns using two different color blocks. Color Bands were formed to compliment our precast retaining walls and planters as well as the general architecture of the train station and parking structure.
To finish the setting, a decorative fence was installed around the site for protection, privacy and safety.
A ribbon-cutting event to celebrate the opening of NJ TRANSIT’s new Ramsey Route 17 Station was held in August 2004. The mayor of Ramsey came in via train, and the NJ TRANSIT Executive Director George D. Warrington attended to congratulate the success of the project.
