The second instructional building at Rutgers University, Van Nest Hall was erected in 1845 and named for Abraham Van Nest, a New York City merchant and devoted trustee of Rutgers College, 1823 to 1865.

In 2007, alumni from the class of 1957 collected funds in an effort to revamp the dormitory entrance to this historically significant structure. Let It Grow, Inc. was awarded the job and eagerly began construction in the Fall of 2008.

This project consisted of a beautifully constructed bluestone patio complete with bollards, commemorative benches, ornamental trees, shrubs and groundcover plantings.

The centrally located etched bluestone acknowledges those who put forth the effort to spearhead this project.
